Our aim is to provide the right environment for that seed to grow to full maturity.
Addiction Services
Te Aratiatia Assessment and referral services
Te Aratiatia provides alcohol and drug assessments and treatment planning for whanau experiencing difficulties with alcohol and/or other drugs. There are a range of options available following initial assessment including one to one counseling, complementary (in-service options) including men’s AoD/Violence, women’s groups, couples counseling, parenting courses, health and nutrition, smoking cessation. We have a harm reduction focus which in practice means “working with where people are at” the attitude that any step towards wellbeing is in and of itself a worthy pursuit.
We cater to whanau who have charges pending. We also refer to a wide range of addiction, health and social services external to He Waka Tapu endeavoring to match whanau needs to the appropriate services.
We have a designated staff member working with Rangatahi (young people) who is currently developing a brief intervention series designed for high school students.
Mauri Ora
Mauri Ora is a 10 week Kaupapa Maori orientated intensive outpatient day program which caters to adults 18 years of age and over. The program operates from 9.30am to 2.30pm five days per week, program schedule will involve three set noho wananga (sleep over), variance to the timetable fixed to suit each specific noho. We accept referrals from the whole of the South Island and have supported accommodation available (10 beds) for those outside the Canterbury region only.
We work with whanau who have co-existing disorders providing they are stable, well case managed externally through psychiatric services and also with whanau on methadone maintainance regimes.
This is a “sobriety sampling” programme meaning whanau need to commit to 10 weeks abstaining from alcohol and drugs during the course.
The philosophical foundations of the Mauri ora program works toward enhancing the oranga of whanau through restorative processes, education, therapeutic methodologies aligned to a tikanga framework.
Te Whariki whakamana
A men’s alcohol/drug/violence programme of between 15 and 20 sessions, night and day programmes available.
Manaaki ki te tangata
This is a social support group for past graduates of our AoD programmes and also those awaiting full engagement for alcohol and drug assessments.
Problem Gambling
He Waka Tapu offers a Problem Gambling service that includes assessment, brief & early interventions, group work and support services to whanau and those struggling with problem gambling issues. For further details contat our office.
