The recent two-day event hosted by He Waka Tapu on the Chatham Islands was a resounding success, with each day dedicated to different groups within the community.

Day One was focused on Rangatahi (young people), offering a vibrant platform for connection and engagement. The day commenced with a warm karakia and whakawhanaungatanga, setting a positive tone for the activities to follow. Participants enjoyed traditional Taonga Tākaro games, a communal lunch provided an opportunity for everyone to share kai and engage in meaningful conversations, leading into group discussions that encouraged the young people to express their thoughts and aspirations. The excitement continued with basketball and touch games, promoting not only physical activity but also a sense of belonging and whanaungatanga among the Rangatahi.

Day Two shifted focus to men in the community, providing a space for discussion, support, and empowerment. The day began with a session of whakawhanaungatanga, emphasizing the importance of relationships and connection. Workshops and discussions centered on topics relevant to men, such as well-being, leadership, and community roles, allowing participants to share experiences and learn from one another. The day featured various physical activities that encouraged bonding and teamwork, including friendly sports competitions. Both days were characterized by a spirit of togetherness, highlighting the event's success in fostering connection, support, and growth within the community. Overall, this two-day initiative celebrated the strengths of both Rangatahi and men, reinforcing the value of unity in nurturing a healthier and more connected community on the Chatham Islands.
