CHATHAM ISLANDS DAY OUT 2025

On Saturday March 8th, the Chatham Islands came together for a the Chathams Day Out at NKMR Kitchen / The Den, Community and visitors alike celebrated their unique culture and offerings.

The Best Of The Island.
The event featured multiple stalls showcasing the best of the islands. He Waka Tapu and Ha O Te Ora set up a booth where they provided information and one-on-one consultations about their health and well-being services. This was a great opportunity for attendees to learn more about the valuable resources available to them on the island.
Kai was on full display, showcasing the diverse culinary skills of the island. From freshly caught seafood to bbq Mutton, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Local businesses also had the chance to shine, displaying arts and crafts that reflected the unique creativity of the Chatham Islands.
Community Spirit.
After a rainy, windy and grey week, the weather came through, bringing sunny skies that made the day's festivities even more enjoyable. The community showed up in force, adding to the excitement of the event. AJ Peni, a local musician who has recently returned to the island with his whānau, provided a lively soundtrack for the day, keeping spirits high as people mingled and celebrated.
Children had their own share of fun with games and competitions designed just for them. The best-dressed competition, featuring an Alice in Wonderland theme, encouraged kids and families to get creative with their costumes.
Overall, the Chatham Islands Day Out was a powerful display of community spirit, showcasing the strengths and talents of the local industries and businesses.
Followed into the evening with an after party with DJ Riddim Cartel. This event was not just a day of fun; it was a beautiful reminder of the importance of coming together and supporting one another in the Chatham Islands. We were honoured to be welcomed to both the island and the event. One that we will attend for years to come.
