(Whakaakoako)
26 / 3 / 2025
On Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd March He Waka Tapu held it’s second wānanga in a series of leading up to AOIO symposium set for early December 2025. This two-day immersive wānanga, presented by Whakapakari Ora, was dedicated to wāhine ora (women’s well-being), maramataka (Māori lunar calendar), and rongoā Māori (traditional healing).

ME ARO KOE KI TE HĀ O HINE-AHU-ONE..
Honouring the Cycles of Life Wāhine Ora is the holistic well-being of wahine (women), encompassing tinana (physical), hinengaro (mental), wairua (spiritual), and whānau (social) health. It is deeply rooted in Mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) and acknowledges the connection between wahine, Te Taiao (the natural world), Maramataka (the lunar calendar), and Rongoā (traditional healing).
This wānanga, honoured the sacred rhythms of wahine— their menstrual cycles, life transitions, and energetic states—through the lens of Te Maramataka, the Māori lunar calendar. It explored how our bodies mirror the cycles of nature, moving through phases of growth, full energy, reflection, and rest, much like the seasons and the moon phases.
It was also an opportunity to reconnect with traditional wahine knowledge, to learn about whakapapa, tapu (sacredness), and tikanga (customary practices) related to wahine health. Through hands-on activities, making kawakawa pānī using plants sourced from our own māra, garden and raranga weaving, particpants were reconnected to natural cycles, nuture personal growth, and invited to explore holistic practices for balance, reflection, and empowerment.
