Gear Up Ōtautahi!
(Community Collaboration)
09 / 01 / 2025
Gear Up Ōtautahi is a local initiative helping Christchurch communities stay active by recycling and redistributing sports gear. Donate your unused sports equipment to give others a chance to play.
How to Donate
Drop off gear right here on site at He Waka Tapu or find a location on their facebook page by clicking right here.
Making a Local Impact
Launched in 2015, Gear Up Ōtautahi has grown into a fully community-led program. With its new base at the Avon Hub in the old Shirley Boys’ Gym (77 North Parade), it’s focused on helping Eastside residents access sports equipment through events, schools, and clubs.
What Can You Donate?
Accepted items include:
- Shoes
- Balls
- Racquets
- Bats
Donations should be clean and in good condition. Note: helmets and clothing are not accepted.
Where Your Donations Go
Gear is distributed at community events, sports clubs, and schools. Unsuitable items may be repurposed, such as donating old balls to Dog Watch Sanctuary Trust.
