The Hakatere (Ashburton) community recently came together to enjoy Whānau Fun Day, an event focused on connection and community spirit.
Community Comes Together for Whānau Day in Hakatere!
The day was supported by the hard work of kaimahi from Hakatere and Ōtautahi, along with contributions from local businesses and services, who generously provided prizes, giveaways, and kai for attendees.
A standout feature of the day was the cultural performances. Te Whānau Whānui o He Waka Tapu presented a kapa haka showcase, with additional performances by Tipazo and Sienna, and the harmonious waiata of Twin Harmony. The Hampstead Primary School Pacifica group also brought their unique talents to the celebration.
The event began at 11 a.m. and saw a strong turnout from the community. Cheridyn and her coffee cart team kept guests refreshed, serving over 400 cups of coffee, while many others worked behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. Martha Daniels, the day’s MC, brought warmth and humor to the stage, with Kare stepping in to keep the energy lively.
The success of Whānau Fun Day reflects the generosity of the local community and the efforts of the He Waka Tapu team. Organizers thanked everyone involved and look forward to welcoming whānau back for future events.
