Kia Ora e te Iwi: Supporting Māori & Pasifika Whānau with Cancer

(Staff Training & Development)

29 / 11 / 2024

Over the past few months, here at HWT, we have been privileged to welcome some incredible kaimahi from both the West Coast/Canterbury and Southern Cancer Society of NZ. They facilitated workshops focused on supporting our Māori and Pasifika whānau living with cancer.

These workshops, both informative and educational, enhanced understanding of various types of cancer and highlighted how familial and environmental factors can impact our whānau. Topics ranged from the importance of HPV vaccinations to the availability of counselling and screening services.

Our kaimahi found this training invaluable, particularly in working with whānau struggling to meet basic needs, where something as vital as a simple cervical screening might not be a priority.

We want to extend a special thanks to Lisia Ratima-Livesly and all her fellow kaimahi for their continued mahi in this space, and for taking time to share their wealth of knowledge with us.
