At He Waka Tapu, we’re excited to introduce a special new resource to our space – Kupu Kari! These cards are more than just tools; they represent a powerful way to bring our core values into everyday mahi, enhance our te reo Māori, and support the wellbeing of both ourselves and our whānau.
What Are Kupu Kari?
At He Waka Tapu, we’re excited to introduce a special new resource to our space – Kupu Kari! These cards are more than just tools; they represent a powerful way to bring our core values into everyday mahi, enhance our te reo Māori, and support the wellbeing of both ourselves and our whānau.
What Are Kupu Kari?
Each kari (card) is designed with a specific colour and purpose, aligned with the values that ground our kaupapa:
Brown – Whānaungatanga: For connection and fostering relationships.
White – Manaakitanga: For showing care, kindness, and respect.
Yellow & Blue – Whakaakoako: For learning, teaching, and reflecting.
Red & Blue – Rangatiratanga: For leadership and empowerment.
Black – Mātauranga: For knowledge and shared wisdom.
How Can We Use Them?
Kupu Kari are designed to flow seamlessly into our daily lives and work:
Start Your Day: Select a card that resonates with you and let it guide your mindset.
Team Hui: Begin or end a meeting with a card to set the tone or reflect on key discussions.
Te Reo Practice: Pair up with a colleague and use the cards for fun, collaborative language learning and personal development.
Facilitators will also incorporate Kupu Kari into group programmes, supporting whaiora in strengthening their reo and engaging deeply with the values represented by each card. This practice provides a meaningful opportunity for personal growth and reflection.
We look forward to introducing more kaupapa Māori resources just like this one into our mahi in the future.
