CHRISTMAS WHĀNAU DAY 2024

(Community Connection & Engagement)

17 / 12 / 2024

The sun was shining, the tunes were pumping, and the vibes were high at yesterday’s final Whānau Day of 2024! It was amazing to see so many of our whaiora and community members come together to enjoy the day. From connecting with suppliers and services to sharing kai, getting fresh fades, participating in the scavenger hunt, and more, it was a day filled with fun and connection.

Final Whānau Day of 2024: A Celebration to Remember!

A big congratulations to Aaron, the winner of the E-Bike raffle, and the Guess the Grocery Hamper winner, with prizes proudly collected at the event. A special shoutout to Annie, Kiri, and Alisha, who worked tirelessly to sell 500 raffle tickets, helping us reach our target. More lucky hamper winners will be announced today from those who filled out surveys.

Throughout the day, we gave away free coffees from Papa D’s, frozen chickens and potatoes donated by Kairos Food Rescue, and plenty of treats for everyone. Thanks to all who contributed to the kai, including the BBQ crew who served up 400 sausages, 100 patties, and Taryn’s delicious frybread.

Our heartfelt thanks go to the many collaborators and kaimahi who made the event unforgettable, from the MC, entertainers, and activity leaders to the amazing Santa (Gary) and helpers who brought joy to so many tamariki. This event was made possible by funding from the Christchurch City Council Strengthening Communities Fund and Te Whatu Ora, along with generous donations from The Warehouse Eastgate and Kairos Food Rescue.

Our next big event is the Waitangi Day celebration on Saturday, 1st February 2025. It will look a little different but will still offer plenty of engaging activities and kai for the community.
