CHATHAM ISLAND WĀHINE WELLBEING WĀNANGA 2025
(Hāpai te Houora 2024)
5-6 / 03 / 2024
On the 5th and 6th of March, in collaboration with Ha O Te Ora Wharekauri Trust we hosted our first Wahine Wellbeing Wānanga pn the beautiful Chatham Islands. The aim was to bring wāhine together to share experiences, learn, and enjoy activities and workshops focused on overall wellbeing and connection.

Day One: Building Connection Through Shared Experiences
The first evening was all about whanaungatanga, and building relationships. Rural Outreach Manager - Gina Tomilison, Referral Administrator - Ariana King and Wāhine Ora Health Promoter - Wikitoria Kurene kicked off with a “Te Whare Tapa Wha workshop,” exploring the holistic approach to health that looks at spiritual, mental, physical, and family wellbeing. and how each part of the whare affects eachother.
Participants shared their stories of overcoming challenges, building resilience. Presentations by Ariana King and Wikitoria Kurene wrapped up the evening where they shared some of thier own experiences.

Day Two: A Day of Pampering.
The next day was dedicated to self-care with our “Wahine Pamper Session.” Participants indulged in a variety of pampering activities, including skincare, facials, and make-up. Everyone had a chance to relax with massages, manicures, and hair styling, while enjoying tasty grazing platters.
The excitement continued with a fun photo shoot, where everyone could show off their new looks. To top it off, each participant received a goodie bag filled with treats to take home.
The overall feedback from the wahine that attended was that even though it wasnt a usual occurence for them, it was something different and was a welcome break from usual activites on the island.
We would like to thank everyone who joined us and contributed to making this event a success. Together, let’s continue to support and uplift one another as we move forward on our wellbeing journeys. Until next time.
